HTC Clobbers Apple, Samsung to Become #1 Smartphone Vendor in U.S.

HTC Clobbers Apple, Samsung to Become #1 Smartphone Vendor in U.S.

The numbers are in and they're insane: according to research by the Canalys firm, HTC shipped 5.7 million smartphones in just one quarter(!) All told, the Taiwanese company owned around a quarter of the market, with Samsung coming in second place at 4.9 million and Apple snagging the bronze at 4.6 million.

How has HTC been so successful? Well, diversification is HTC's maxim. The Taiwanese company has released over 18 Android phones just this year –and it's still November! Perhaps because they've been so successful at creating a phone for every budget, the phones get snatched up by the carriers like hotcakes. Besides rock stars like the Amaze 4G, HTC released the Doubeshot, Rider, Ruby, Sensation XL and Evo 3D all in the past 3 months.

But HTC should enjoy every moment of this fame; the company is sure to face fierce competition from the iPhone 4S and Galaxy Nexus in the next quarter. Good luck out there, HTC.
