More T-Mobile G2 Photos, T-Mobile Expands HSPA+ Network
CellPhoneSignal released new official pictures of the T-Mobile G2, which are also on T-Mobile's site, which strengthen several rumors on the G2's features. In addition, T-Mobile announced that they have expanded their HSPA+ network to several new markets, with coverage now extending to 55 major metorpolitan areas.
CellPhoneSignal believes that the G2 will launch with one color choice, silver. We haven't seen any other color variations up to this point, so I would say their conclusion is a fairly safe bet, at least for now. Engadget mentions that "a white, red, or black version of this would be pretty neat" and I am sure those of you that like to have personalized phones would agree.
In addition, there were conflicting rumors regarding whether the G2 would launch with HTC Sense, but these latest pictures seem to confirm Android 2.2 without Sense.
Android Central notes that "supposedly that's a 3.7-inch Super AMOLED screen we're looking at, but it wouldn't surprise us at all if that changed, given the current state of supply. Or lack thereof." Seeing as how the Verizon Fascinate is yet to launch, and that the Epic 4G has only been out for a couple days, I would think that AMOLED display shortages are still a problem.
In other T-Mobile news, AndroidandMe is reporting that T-Mobile announced in a press release the expansion of T-Mobile USA's HSPA+ network to nine more markets. The new markets are "Boston, Mass.; Erie, Penn.; Fresno, Palm Springs and San Diego, Calif.; Miami, Fla.; Richmond, Va.; Spokane, Wash.; and Topeka, Kan", which expands T-Mobile's HSPA+ "network to 100 million Americans in more than 55 major metropolitan areas."
AndroidandMe adds that the G2 will be T-Mobile's first HSPA+ device (with a theoretical peak of 14.4Mbps), and that the current HSPA+ network supports "theoretical peak downloads of 21 Mbps (which they are calling “4G speeds”), but that will double to 42 Mbps next year as the carrier continues to upgrade their network."
Phandroid writes that the "T-Mobile G2 can’t quite take advantage of all that bandwidth with 14.4 Mbps maxing out download speeds on the handset, but it should offer a blazing fast alternative to the speed of the Samsung Epic 4G and HTC EVO 4G on Sprint."
