Samsung Debuts its Galaxy S Android Smartphone
With CTIA well underway in Las Vegas, the Android smartphone and network news keeps pouring in at an astounding rate. Samsung announced yesterday its Galaxy S, and the details are starting to become clear. AndroidGuys and Androinica managed to get a good grasp on the specs, and I have summarized some of the more important aspects (in my opinion.)
According to the article from AndroidGuys, the phone is definitely a powerful smartphone. Gizmodo reports that it has "advanced location-based services and the Layar Reality browser, which allows for augmented reality content."
Let's take a look at my abbreviated list I spoke of, shall we?
- Android 2.1 OS with Samsung UI
- 4" Super AMOLED display with 800 x 480 pixels
- 1 GHz processor
- 5 MP camera with VGA video telephony camera
- USB 2.0 support
- Wireless 802.11b/g/n
- 8 or 16 GB onboard storage with support for a microSD card of up to 32GB

- A-GPS, Bluetooth 3.0, Native GPS with 3D Maps

More thanks to the "guys" at AndroidGuys and Androinica for gathering these specs. I know you were waiting for it: the bad news. AndroidCentral had this to say about the frequencies the phone will work on: "The hardware as displayed supports EDGE at 850/900/1800/1900MHz, meaning that you could use it in the U.S. But the 3G bands are 900/1900/2100MHz, so you're out of luck if you're looking for the standard 850MHZ 3G goodness."
As for when and with what carrier we can expect this, Samsung kept their answers to themselves. However, we can expect to know "soon." Yeah...
