Samsung Epic 4G Launches, Rooted Before Release
Sprint launched the Samsung Epic 4G yesterday in stores and online for $249.99 on a two year contact. Engadget reports that Amazon has the handset listed for $199 on a two year contract. For those of you who like to run ROMs on your phones or just have root access, you will be excited to know that the Epic 4G has been rooted since Saturday.
Just in case you haven't heard about the Epic 4G's specs already, the phone sports the same 4" Super AMOLED and 1GHz Hummingbird processor as the other Galaxy S phones, but features a slide-out five-row QWERTY keyboard and support for Sprint's 4G network.
AndroidandMe reminds interested consumers that the HTC "EVO 4G sold out in the first few days after launch and it took weeks before HTC was able to replenish stock at Sprint’s retail location."
According to AndroidGuys, the phone was rooted by some developers at SDX several days ago (before the handset's release), and that the rooting process is fairly simple. I don't think it is a stretch to say that the other Galaxy S devices aided in achieving root on the Epic 4G. Check it out for yourself here, but I'd recommend waiting a bit before setting off on that journey.
