Sony Xperia X10 Update To Android 2.1 Begins

Sony Xperia X10 Update To Android 2.1 Begins

The Sony Ericsson Blog announced on Friday that the Xperia X10 line of phones would begin to receive the Android 2.1 update starting yesterday evening. The update is scheduled to start first in the Nordic countries (like the Samsung Galaxy S Android 2.2 update) and continue on from there, with the update process for all users scheduled to complete be the end of November.

Every phone in the Xperia X10 line of phones will be seeing the Android 2.1 update, so those of you with X10 Mini and Mini Pro handsets should be getting the update as well sometime this month. Unfortunately, the source did not specify a timetable for the updates in other areas of the world.

Below is the list of changes coming with the update, taken from AndroidGuys:

Xperia X10:

  • HD video recording with continuous auto-focus for high quality videos
  • Android 2.1
  • New back up and restore application, with extended content back up
  • 5 homescreens for apps, widgets, shortcuts and folders
  • Social phonebook which automatically syncs contact pictures from Facebook and shows when your friends are online

Xperia X10 Mini and X10 Mini Pro:

  • Improved Bluetooth functionality with support for sending and receiving pictures, contacts and more
  • New backup and restore application with extended content back up
  • Automatic sync of your contact pictures between Facebook and your phone book
  • Improved ways of handling pictures, audio, text and numbers in your messages
  • Android platform 2.1

The post from the Sony Ericsson Product Blog stresses to users that the updates are being released in kits (aka "different configuration", such as color, region, accessories, and software configurations), which means that if your phone doesn't get the upgrade in the first days or week, your phone should still get the update.

This is it guys, I don't think it's going to get any more solid than this until the update actually hits your device. Taking this long to get the Androdi 2.1 update out is definitely a low point in consumer confidence for Sony Ericsson, but as MobileCrunch points out, it's "better super later than never, right?"

Do you have a Xperia X10 family handset that has received the update? Let us know what you think about the upgrade in the comments below.

It runs nice and smoothly. Android 2.1 undoubtedly is a worthwhile platform.
