SteelSeries Ion– Best Android Gamepad Ever?

Android gaming seems to be taking a flying start into 2012 with the wide-market release of quad-core processors and the graphical quantum leap that the next generation of Android tablets will bring with them. But if your thumbs are hogging half the screen it doesn't matter how good the graphics are. The “Ion” from SteelSeries might just be the answer for mobile gamers, looking for a high-quality gamepad to match their next Android tab.

At first glance, the ion has everything you'd wan from a gamepad. Dual-analogue sticks and high-quality materials mean this pad will let you play everything from ShadowGun to Zenonia or R-type. There still isn't any definite word which games will be supported but here's to hoping that both the makers of SteelSeries and Android developers can bring this device to as many games as possible. The Ion wont be available until Q3 of 2012 but that will at least give me time to save up for a new tablet!

I hope that more developers can integrate gamepad support into their games. The basis for gamepad support has was integrated into Android with the release of Honeycomb and it would be nice to see game developers finally embrace the possibilities Google has provided en masse.
