Samsung Galaxy S2 And Note To Get ICS Update By End Of Q1

Samsung Galaxy S2 and Samsung Note owners rejoice! It's now official, right out of Samsung Norway, that Galaxy S2 and Note owners will be receiving an Android update to Ice Cream Sandwich before the end of the first quarter. I know a lot of Galaxy S2 owners who have took to rooting their phones to get an early update to ICS, and I'm sure that this will come as good news to anyone sporting either of these popular high end devices.

Whether you're a fan of skins or not, Samsung has stated that the update wil included the custom TouchWiz interface. The version included in the update will be TouchWiz 4.0, and according to Samsung, the OS should have improved multitasking, a faster and more stable web browser, along with improved application support.

How To Get ICS Update Now

For anyone who still doesn't want to wait that long and wants to get an early taste, I highly encourage you to try CyanogenMods alpha ICS ROMS on XDA Developers, which will keep impatient owners from having to wait months for android updates. I have tested it myself on the phone and it absolutely flies even in alpha stage. It's also unskinned and running pure Android. You can find the thread for that here, and instructions on how to root here.

I've never been a big fan of TouchWiz, but it seems that Samsung is putting a lot of effort into integrating their skin into Android. Be sure to hit us up here or in the forms when the update reaches you! Hopefully, there won't be any delays from Samsung this time around.
