Essential apps for New Year’s Eve

Essential apps for New Year’s Eve

Christmas has come and gone and as we clear away the wrapping paper we are all starting to set our sights on the biggest party of the year as we say goodbye to 2013 and hello to 2014! So put down those Christmas tree decorations and get your disco shoes ready, because we’ve got the apps to make your New Year’s Eve epic!

It's the final countdown!

What’s the point of a countdown unless you know how long there is to go? I’ve got two favorites in this category: New Year’s Eve Countdown 2014 Free and Final Countdown. The first is a great live wallpaper app that can also be used for Christmas, which has great animations and effects like snow and fireworks as you watch the seconds tick by towards the new year. Final Countdown, on the other hand, is a classic digital readout widget like you’d find in any public square counting down the days to any major event. So you can set it for any event you like, not just New Year’s Eve, and watch the countdown to whatever the big day is.

Everybody mix it up!

Where would New Year’s Eve be without some horrendously overpriced drinks? If you want to impress your friends with your flair bartending skills (flair not included) or just want to save a few bucks and drink in style before you head out to join the swelling mass of revelers, then you need a serious cocktail recipe app to get you started. I have a single recommendation here: My Cocktail Bar Drink Recipes, a slim app which offers tons of cocktail recipes (but not too many), let’s you favorite recipes, create your own and show you what you can make with what you’ve got (or with another ingredient or two).

"Where are you?!?"

There’s fashionably late, then there’s “are you coming or what?!”. I’ve been a fan of Google+ account? Just go to Location Sharing and set your preferences.

Get some photographic evidence

One of the other AndroidPIT editors brought EyeEm to my attention a while back and it’s become a fast favorite. EyeEm is a great alternative to the Instagram’s ads have been getting on your nerves a bit lately, perhaps now is the time to try out another photo sharing community.

"This year I really mean it"

When all is said and done, the New Year has arrived and you’ve forgotten half the New Year’s resolutions you blurted out the night before. So why not keep track of them before they disappear like so many of 2013’s brain cells? Life Reminders is more than just a note taking app or gimmicky New Year’s resolutions app. It is what it says: a life reminder. You can use it to set goals, appointments, reminders, whatever you need, and customize those reminders however you see fit. From a one-off appointment to an ongoing life goal (exercise yet today?), you can create your own personalized notifications and even have the app read out your reminders in order to keep you motivated.
