Hello,

I'm due to get my HTC Desire in a few days and I was wondering what people think should be my first downloads? I have started to make a list from the excellent reviews on here but anyone have any stand out apps?

Thanks in advance

Indie

For utilities I like, Astro File Manager (nice file manager), Advanced Task Killer (good program killer), Barcode Scanner (must have for QRCodes and other barcodes), Easy Spirit Level (useful for leveling stuff), gUnit Lite (nice unit converter), Metal Detector (fun for showing off your android), Wifi Analyzer, Bible (nice daily verses and devotional). For games I like: GameBoid Lite (gameboy emulator), Mojo Nes Lite (nintendo emulator), Pulse Rider Demo (is hard but fun), Robo Defense (is real fun at first but becomes repetitive), Word Search (have made a game like this for j2me). You might also like my apps: Party Light and Party Light Free.

If you play an instrument, I found the gStrings app to be amazing. You can tune your guitar with your Android phone!!!!

Kayak - I travel a lot and I love the website. The app is just as good.

Opera Mini 5 beta - Although it's still in its Beta version, I prefer if to the built-in Android browser.

Nimbuzz - For Skyping using your phone. So cool!

FxCamera - Cool LOMO, Fisheye, and Polaroid affects for your phone camera! A ton of fun. I don't think the iPhone has anything like it....

Drinkspiration!!!!

Never thought I would be using this app, as much as I do. If your an avid drinker (not an alcoholic, but enjoy your fancy drinks), you should consider it. It's a cool little gadget to have with you at a bar, because I never remember the names of the cocktails ;)

Currently QuickDic as an English-German translator is my best/most useful/most used app since I am in German class every day for 4 hours. It works great though and doesn't kill my battery (the screen is a whole other story.)

Well, I would suggest LiveProfile, I just got it on my new Droid X when switching from a blackberry it is BBM that works cross platform and its free so its kind of cool. But I only have the beta version because they sent me an invite, otherwise it is not available as of yet from what I know. You can get it from signing up on their site, its http://www.liveprofile.com/

You might want to give Google translate a try, but that probably uses your internet connection. QuickDic was cool cause it had it saved on the phone. I'd recommend searching for "whatever to whatever translator" in the Market, as those apps might be saved on your phone and not need a data connection.
