LG officially reveals Lifeband Touch fitness wristband [video update]

At LG's Bluetooth v4.0. The LG Lifeband Touch will track movement (including steps), caloric consumption, heart rate and distance covered during your workout via built-in 3-axis accelerometer and altimeter. This information can then be fed through the companion app on your smartphone or to the OLED display on the wearable.

One of the coolest features of the Lifeband Touch is what LG has dubbed the Heart Rate Earphone, which can pair wirelessly with the Lifeband Touch (but is a separate product). The Heart Rate Earphone uses optical sensors called “PerformTek” to monitor blood flow in the ear and sends this information along with oxygen consumption (VO2 max) to both the Lifeband Touch and the companion app (as well as routing this info audibly through the earphones). You can, of course, also get call notifications and control your music on the Lifeband Touch, making it a go-to fitness accessory for those who don't like smartwatches. The Lifeband Touch is water resistant, to withstand those heavy sweat-inducing workouts, and features a color LED screen.

If you want to know what else the LG Lifeband Touch can do, check out our video from CES 2014. You've multiple levels of control: the first ''screen'' displays time, date and battery life. The second ''screen'' shows calories burnt for the day, calorie goal for the day and progress meter, which also changes the color of the button glow as you near your goal for the day. The thrid ''screen'' displays workout data with your heart rate (if you have the earphones in), distance covered, calories burnt, speed and step counter. If you have the Lifeband Touch synced with your phoen you can also control music, and receive notifications from the tiny LED display.

The smartband will be available in the US this Spring (only in black). Will you be picking up a fitness wearable this year?

this looks like the best one so far and I would certainly take this over a smart watch.
