OPPO Reno and Reno 10x Zoom now official in Europe

After the previous announcement in China, OPPO invited the press in Zurich for the European launch of the first series of Reno smartphones. BBK Electronics Group giant has finally unveiled the prices and availability of its Reno and Reno 10x Zoom. Here's everything you need to know before buying.

In terms of design, OPPO Reno and Reno 10x Zoom are not so different, except for a few small details that, depending on the end consumer, could be an advantage or a disadvantage. Just like in China, the Reno comes in two variants, a standard version and another called Reno 10x Zoom, which, as you may have guessed from its name, is able to take advantage of the 10x hybrid zoom technology that the Chinese manufacturer presented at the MWC 2019. The price is 499 euros for the standard Reno, 799 euros for the Reno 10x Zoom and 899 for Reno 5G version.

The OPPO Reno will be available from May 10, Reno 10X Zoom from June.

OPPO Reno

The standard version of OPPO Reno is available in two different gradient colors (Jet Black and Ocean Green) and memory cuts. You can choose between the 6GB of RAM and 128 or 256GB of internal memory, or 8GB of RAM and 256GB of memory. Everything is managed through the SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 710. The 6.4-inch display is virtually bezel-less and shows a resolution of FHD+, or 2340x1080 pixels.

The dual main camera of this OPPO Reno uses a module consisting of a 48MP Sony IMX586 sensor, combined with a 5MP sensor used exclusively for depth of field calculation. Frontally, the 16MP front camera is hidden inside the new shark fin-shaped pop-up mechanism, a particularly curious and original solution compared to what we saw last year with OPPO Find X.

In addition to support for Bluetooth 5.0 technology, the Reno also features an NFC chip for digital payments and a 3.5 mm audio jack, while for the battery, the 3765 mAh module offers support for VOOC 3.0 fast charging technology. The on-board operating system is Android 9 Pie with a custom ColorOS 6 interface.

Although the design is virtually identical to the standard model, the more expensive variant of the Reno offers a slightly larger 6.65-inch display but the resolution remains the same (FHD+).

What makes this model stand out most is the on-board processor, the photo compartment and the size of the battery: here, in fact, is a SoC Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, flanked by 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal memory. The installed battery offers a capacity of 4065 mAh and also supports the same technology of fast charging VOOC 3.0.

The photo department also offers more fun: the name, Reno 10x Zoom, is a clear reference to the capabilities that this smartphone can boast. The triple camera configuration is composed as follows:

  • Sony IMX586 48MP main sensor
  • 8MP ultra-wide-angle sensor with up to 120° viewing angle
  • Periscope sensor capable of achieving a 10x hybrid zoom in combination with the other two lenses

OPPO Reno - what you need to know

Shark fin slider

The new shark fin mechanism automatically lifts on two occasions: when you decide to use the front camera, or when you activate the flashlight. This is because the rear camera's LED flash has been housed in the back of the mechanism and not in the rear case. In addition, OPPO reported that it had tested this system for 200 thousand times and that it is able to close automatically in case of accidental drops..

10x hybrid zoom 10x

Just as we have already seen on the Huawei P30 Pro, OPPO also uses a combination of the various sensors on board its flagship device to achieve a 10x zoom hybrid or "lossless". OPPO has stated that its three lenses work in tandem to achieve high image quality and virtually minimal loss of detail.

Hidden Fingerprint Unlock 2.0

Both devices share the same fingerprint sensor underneath the display. Despite being optical and not ultrasonic, OPPO has enhanced this technology and is now able to achieve an unlocking speed of the device higher than almost 30%, as well as an improved fingerprint recognition of more than 20% compared to the previous generation.

Ultra Night Mode 2.0

Thanks to AI support, OPPO Reno also has a dedicated night mode for shots in low light conditions. In addition, the Reno 10x Zoom also has a feature that can detect and focus on the face of a subject even in the dark.
